description: This product shows the likely locations and boundaries of dune slacks for sites around England. A dune slack is a depression in coastal dune system. It is based upon a morphological definition of dune slacks and uses LIDAR Digital Terrain Model (DTM) data and a derived slope model. Each slack has height statistics calculated for it. The data are provided in Polygon Shapefile format. Dune slack boundaries based upon phytological associations may differ to this product. It is particularly important to remember where sand dunes are covered by large extents of scrub or woodland, as through the use of LIDAR DTM, slacks can be identified under scrub and tree vegetation; however this also gives the product unique advantages in considering vegetation recovery after scrub or tree clearance. Geographical coverage is incomplete because of limits in data available. It includes those areas where the Environment Agency, Natural England and the Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme have carried out sufficient aerial surveys.
